                             PAINT FOR EXTERIOR WALLS

While choosing color of the paint and finish, it’s hard to decide which paint will suitable for the exterior walls. When you choose paint for exterior surface/walls, you should decide ease of application, protection against weather and the most important is its quality. They should be attractive yet durable enough to withstand weathering. The paints for exterior surfaces (such as brick, cement, stucco, cinder block and asbestos-cement) include following types.

  • Cement-Based Paints: It is water based paint and is applied on the peripheral surface of the house. It is highly water resistant and gives the finest outcome on newly concrete surface.
  • Acrylic emulsion paint: It provides excellent protection against vagaries of nature withstanding fairly extreme of heat and cold and rain. Also it’s extremely resistant to fungus, algae and peeling and remains effective for 4-5 year.

One of the problems that can occur when painting an exterior wall is that you can come across a chalky and unstable surface. If you apply paint without effectively treating this problem, the paint will dry and stick to the loose dust particles instead of getting a sound adhesion to the wall. This will result in the paint blistering and failing.
A stabilising solution can fix the problem. Apply it directly to the surface with a brush, and allow to dry for 24 hours before painting. It will not only stabilize the surface to allow for good paint adhesion – it also allows the same amount of paint to cover more surface area.

                         PAINT FOR INTERIOR WALL

Interior walls show inner décor of the  home. The effects of wall colors miraculously realize your character and your home as well. Interior wall painting adds to the charm of your  home. Generally we have different types of paint for both interior and exterior wall which differs according to their necessity.
Some of them are -

  • Latex/Water Based Paints: These paints do not  fade away easily, less likely to crack or peel and have fewer odours. Moreover, latex paints are fast-drying and require only water for thinning and clean up.

  • Oil-Based Paints: These paints are better choice for interior walls as they are extremely durable. Oil-based paints are slow-drying and require mineral spirits for thinning and clean up. The only drawback of these paints is that they have strong odour.
  • Vinyl-Acrylic Latex Paints: They are the least expensive and suitable for most interior walls as they have durable color and better adhesion.

  • Enamels: It is a type of oil based paint with better adhesion qualities. It is reasonably durable and stain resistant. It provides softness and cheerfulness to the surface. It has better gloss than vinyl-acrylics.

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO REPAINT ALREADY PAINTED WALLS?

If you're painting over a wall with a paint that is close to the previous color, then in general, you don't need to prime existing paint. To prepare for repainting:

  • 1.Wash the wall to remove any grease.
  • 2.Fill any holes and cracks with suitable filler, perhaps using flexible filler for cracks.
  • 3.Sand and prime the filled areas—priming will seal the filler and keep it in place. You might want to sand and reprime the whole wall to avoid a patchy look.
  • 4.Repaint the wall with at least two coats of your new color. If you're painting over a dark color with a lighter one, you might need more than two coats to stop the previous color from showing through. If that's the case, using a primer or basic white matte emulsion for the first coat (or two if it's really dark) is a more cost-effective option than using the more expensive colored paint for all the coats. Unfortunately, you don't always discover that in time.
  • 5.Finally, paint in full daylight—especially for the final coat—so you can see where you've been.

                                         LIGHT FIXTURES

light fixture or luminaire is an electrical device used to create artificial light by use of an electric lamp. They may also have a switch to control the light. A wide variety of special light fixtures are created for use in the automotive lighting industry, aerospace, marine and medicine.

In fact normal people like us can also use this at their homes because it has other features too such as reflectors for directing the light, an aperture (with or without a lens), an outer shell or housing for lamp alignment and protection etc.

There are many types of fixtures such as -

Chandeliers Large, centralized light sources; Hang from the ceiling and have multiple light fixtures on the same unit; Traditionally an elegant look, though many now have modern designs.

Pendant lights Also hang from the ceiling; Have a single fixture; Come in a wide variety of  styles and are ideal for providing spot lighting in a dining area; Chandeliers may also include  numerous pendant lights.

Recessed lightings - The fixtures in where the lights are not visible directly but a little recessed inward or outward. Light fixtures are in ceilings or in floors; Provides a very elegant and modern look by providing plenty of light; Also keeps sight lines clean and uninterrupted.

Accent lightings Comprised of small fixtures that light up small areas within a restaurant; Example would be a strip of small LED lights under the top of a bar.

Fixture manufacturing began soon after production of the incandescent light bulb. When practical uses of fluorescent lighting were realized after 1924, the three leading companies to produce various fixtures were LightolierArtcraft Fluorescent Lighting Corporation, and Globe Lighting in the United States.

                 WHY TO CHOOSE TILES?

    The Green Side of Tile

For thousands of years, discerning builders have chosen tile for their projects due to its many benefits. When you begin to factor in how environmentally-friendly ceramic and porcelain tile products are, you’ll see that tile is the obvious choice when building green.

    TYPES OF TILES

CERAMIC - These are made from fired clay and finished with a glaze. They are hard-wearing, waterproof and fireproof. They are available in a wide range of designs, colours, sizes and finishes, and at a range of different prices.

    PORCELAIN
    - Porcelain tiles are made from hard, finer clays. They used to be made using a different manufacturing method which resulted in the design running all the way through the tile - but these days they are usually glazed and fired in the same way as ceramic tiles. They tend to be harder and denser than ceramic tiles.

QUARRY TILES -  True quarry tiles are extruded (that is, squeezed out) rather than pressed, as most ceramic tiles are. This gives a slightly rougher finish and greater variability in shape. Traditionally a reddish brown colour, they are now available in various shades of grey and black, too.

           WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT WALLPAPERS?

Basically the earliest wallpapers used in Europe were painted with images of popular religious icons. These "domino papers" were pasted within homes of the devout; however, they also enlivened the bleak homes of the poor. Within the next few centuries, papers were hand block-printed,but only remained popular with the poor.

The paper is printed with inks composed of pigment and a vehicle which ties the ink to the backing. Solvents can be acetone or water, for example.

New wallpaper designs are generally derived from sketches purchased from a staff designer or freelance wallpaper designer. The artist lays out the design on tracing paper and completes at least a partial pencil sketch.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF WALLPAPER?

Embossed Wallpaper: The designs are pressed onto a paper backing creating a raised, textured effect. The embossed textured design tends to hide most wall imperfections. Therefore, Embossed Wallpapers can be installed over lightly damaged walls. They are even washable.

Borders: Designs are printed on a paper back than vinyl coated. Borders come in a wide variety of designs and widths. They can be installed in combination with wallpaper or directly on painted surfaces. Wallpaper Borders are used for many applications such as a chair rail, along ceiling lines, along the baseboards, around doors, and windows.

Natural Bamboo Wallpaper:  Natural Bamboo Wallpaper is made by applying bamboo reeds, or vines onto a paper backing with glue. Actual color and texture of wallpaper will vary slightly from roll to roll. Because handmade Natural Bamboo Wallpaper has different variations of color and texture, they will create a paneling look on the walls when installed, therefore, seams will show.

Nonwoven Wallpapers: Made of a special blend of natural and synthetic fibers, Nonwoven Wallpapers are washable and breathable.
